Auntie Chi

Auntie Chi

My aunt had a cancer reoccurrence and passed away in the hospital without loved ones around. This was when Covid restrictions were high and no one besides the patient was allowed in the hospital. She has four grown kids and they were only able to see her through Zoom. Through the persistence of one of her daughters, she was able to see her in person once.

I couldn’t imagine losing a mother this way. So I painted the portrait to honor my aunt’s memory, to send positive energy to her spirit wherever she is. It was also for me to process the loss myself, but mainly for my cousins, to honor and acknowledge the loss of their mother and to invite acceptance and peace for them.
