“Harbor” represents the healing of grief and trauma. The decision to confront and work through past issues and engage in shadow work has a profound impact on the present and future.

When I first got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, I went to a lot of doctors; conventional and holistic. They had conflicting advice and it was confusing, but they all emphasized the importance of mindset. That stuck with me and since then I’ve heard that over and over, from different sources.

When I began to learn more about the power of belief and quantum physics, I saw a connection. While I turned to both chemotherapy and alternative treatment, and having success and failures with both, I believe part of my cancer recovery was to visualize myself as already healed and healthy.

I began to explore my past and painted this to represent the energy required to heal the trauma of the cancer experience. In a weird way, it painted itself. I had meant to just prepare my canvas with gesso. For those unfamiliar, it’s a layer of paint that is added on once or as multiple layers to create a smooth surface to begin a painting on, and is typically done in white.

Instead of just adding gesso in white, I adding squirts of color here and there and the background was formed. I kept going and added elements that came to me in the moment. I mixed colors without thought and made marks on the canvas using a roller and thinned out the paint to allow for drips. What resulted was this picture, and at one point I wasn’t sure which way was up. But the more I looked at it, the meaning came forward to me.

At first glance, the masses in the painting resembled tumors. But then, I saw ships in a harbor, representing the past, present and future. The light coming through from the viewer onto the ship represents sending love, forgiveness and compassion to the past, to heal old wounds, affecting the present and the future.

This Reiki painting brings a quote to mind:

“Quantum particles can communicate with themselves at different points in time. They're not limited by the concepts of past, present, and future….A quantum particle can be in one place only, two places at once, or even many places simultaneously…. no matter how far apart these locations appear to be physically, the particle acts as if it's still connected.” - Gregg Braden, Spontaneous Healing of Belief
